  • New Chair appointed for Film Archive

    Clare Morrow, former Chair of Welcome to Yorkshire and previously Controller of News and Programmes at ITV Yorkshire, has been appointed as the new Chair of the Yorkshire and North East Film Archive.  

    Clare brings more than 30 years of experience to the YFA, through a career in television and as a non-executive director.   She is currently a non-executive director of both Bettys and Taylors of Harrogate, and the Rugby Football League.  Previously she was a non-executive director of the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, as well as Network Manager of the Broadcasting and Creative Industries Disability Network.

  • NEFA receives HLF funding for 'North East on Film'

    NEFA are delighted to announce the award of Heritage Lottery Fund Development Funding to help us prepare for a major new programme: ‘North East on Film’, with the ambition to preserve more of our regional film heritage collections, and take them back out to communities across the whole of the North East of England - creating new opportunities for people to see and enjoy moving image collections that have an immediate connection and resonance to their lives and landscapes, through a region-wide programme of screenings, events and online access to hundreds on films.

  • Scenes at the Ripon Highland Sports - 100 Years On

    On a chilly St George’s Day April weekend in 1916 troops stationed at Ripon Army Camp came together with the people of Ripon for a huge military tournament on Ripon Racecourse. It was a joyous occasion – with competitions, races, a cross country run, horse trials, highland dancing (many of the Highland Regiments were stationed in Ripon at the time) and a chance to put to one side the darkening clouds of the First World War for just one day.
