Filmability

Following increasing demand from a range of organisations for reminiscence work based on using archive footage, the YFA is investigating the positive contribution archive content can make in a range of health settings.

Early findings from a project with a local hospice indicate there is great potential for its use as a therapy tool for early stages of dementia, and for older people in care settings. Unlocking this potential through the use of assisted and innovative technology can produce exciting advances in the way memory and reminiscence therapy is delivered.

Working with clinicians, health care professionals, carers and patients, YFA will be undertaking further study to look at ways in which the use of our archives can play a beneficial role in mental health. The films that are used are taken largely from home movie collections from the 40s 50s and 60s, and are organised around scenes of childhood, leisure, locality, royal visits etc, that are both relevant and immediately engaging for the audiences involved.

If you would like to know more about the project, please email Ruth Patman.
