Archiving the Future
On 27th and 28th February 2010, Yorkshire Film Archive and York St John University hosted the Skillset-funded conference “Archiving the Future”.
The focus of the weekend’s presentations and discussions was on the issues and opportunities confronting archives in response to the fast-moving developments in digital technologies, particularly in terms of preservation of these materials and the impact on access work. Over 90 delegates attended the informative and enjoyable event, including archivists from a broad range of national and international organisations, academic lecturers, students, and film and TV programme makers.
Speakers from UK and international archives, and the production industry, presented a range of papers and discussion, covering:
* Commercial exploitation, working with commercial partners
* Understanding digital moving image media formats
* The impact of digital technologies on public access archives
* Preservation and digital formats
* Emerging technologies and archiving digital media
* Online access to film archives
