This Yorkshire Television production is a portrait of 74 year old Dr Helena Hamilton piloting her De Havilland Hornet Moth at Doncaster airport on a snowy winter’s day in 1988. Helena shows her passion both for flying, vowing to continue until she is no longer able, and for her beloved plane, something she’s not willing to sell at any price.
This is the second of a series of four themed programmes made by Yorkshire Television that aired in 1987 about life on the Manor Estate of council housing in Sheffield, consisting of events on the Estate and interviews with, mostly unidentified, residents. This one focuses on residents who have been made redundant and who are trying to move on. It shows four unemployed steelworkers trying to renovate a tool making workshop, Mal Middleton, who has written a script, ‘Bird Fancier’, produced by the BBC, unemployed workers who are scavenging the derelict houses, and Sheffield Wednesday footballer Mel Sterland. It was first transmitted on 10th August, 1987.

Men in protective clothing are seen cleaning Grey Street following a chemical or phosphorous attack. Another training exercise shows men training to locate and retrieve victims from bomb damaged houses. The film also includes extensive footage believed to be of a suburban street in Heaton in Newcastle showing damaged and destroyed houses. The film also includes footage of an equestrian event featuring the police that takes place in Jesmond Dene.
An amateur film made by members of the Cleveland Cine Club showing the Merlin Parachute Club parachuting from the Doncaster Parachute Centre. The film begins with views of the airport and pilots looking over their planes. The aircraft taxi to the runway and members of the club get on-board. There are views filmed from the ground as well as in the plane of people jumping and coming into land.
