A portrait of Scarborough, the seaside jewel of the northeast, the place and the people. A film on the changes Scarborough (and other seaside resorts in general) and its people have faced over the changing fashions of holidays and what people search for, and how they have adapted to such challenges.
The film captures snapshots of the filmmaker’s holidays in 1938. For the most part, the film was made in Somerset, but it also features shots filmed in Cardiff.
This film in the Hartlepool Council collection records a "Sports For All" sports day at Clairville Stadium in Middlesbrough, roller skating activities, and a holiday visit in 1978 of a group of students with learning disabilities from the Lynn Street Adult Training Centre.
Made by amateur filmmaker George Cummin, this film documents a summer holiday in Jersey with girlfriend (and later wife), Norah, and a group of friends. The film uses both original amateur footage and commercial film and cartoon inserts as comic interludes, including Mickey Mouse sequences. This film is part of the Newcastle & District Amateur Cinematographers Association (ACA) collection.
