The film promotes the North East as a marvellous place to live and work and includes footage of engineers, scientists and draftsmen at the ICI Billingham chemical works and the many social pursuits available for workers: sports at Billingham Synthonia and Wilton Hall Clubs, rowing and sailing on the Wear,Yorkshire Gliding Club at Sutton Bank and rock climbing. The film also tours around local Teesside villages and towns such as picturesque Norton and Stockton-on-Tees on a busy market day. The coastal towns of Saltburn, Staithes (including women in traditional Staithes bonnets) and Whitby are explored as well as the iconic cities of Durham, York and Newcastle (including night time Hoppings scenes on the Town Moor). The final scenes capture the remote landscapes of Weardale and the world of the hill farmers.

The film elaborates on the historical links between Norway, Scarborough and the North East of England. It documents the Kavli chain of cheese production from Norway to the UK base for Primula cheese manufacture in Gateshead’s Team Valley, opened in 1959. Includes footage of the Festival of Norway in Scarborough in 1966, which celebrated the founding of the town by Viking settlers 1,000 years previously, and the automated production process for Primula cheese and Kavli crispbreads in the Kavli factory at Team Valley Trading Estate, Gateshead. Kavli first set up operations in Cramlington back in 1936.

The film also looks at the local countryside and visits a country show. Industry in the area shows workers leaving the Cargo Fleet steelworks on Middlesbrough Road.

Made by local student filmmakers David Eadington, Bryan Byrne and Roger Schindler, this film looks at the early days of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, the heritage railway that now runs from Grosmont to Pickering in North Yorkshire. Starting with a black and white sequence, volunteers prepare track and engines, the film moves to colour with an account of a fully functioning passenger railway.
Made by amateur filmmaker Robert Brunger, this compilation records the 1974 Skelton Carnival, which was introduced in 1966 to unite villagers in Cleveland’s ironstone mining region. Skelton teens parade in platform boots with glam rock props, and there are juvenile jazz bands and a Carnival Queen in this July parade of floats. The parade snakes down the High Street to the recreation ground, where events include motorcycle stunt riders in Native American costume and a giant hot-air balloon that takes to the skies. The compilation also includes general views of the Skinningrove Works in 1970 under British Steel Corporation’s public ownership.
An amateur film produced by Derek Mathieson between 1979 and 1980 about the restored Crakehall Water Corn Mill in the village of Crakehall, North Yorkshire. The film includes an interview with Colonel Whitaker Holmes who has restored the derelict mill to full working order. He is also filmed inside the mill grinding the corn using the power of the Crakehall Beck.
An amateur film made by Cyril Hall that focuses on a traction engine rally, possibly the Masham Steam Rally in North Yorkshire. As well as footage of the many engines no display, both full sized and models, the film records other activities taking place around the site including children enjoying the many fairground rides and a hot air balloon in the shape of a beer bottle flying through the sky. As well as steam power, including a steam powered thresher, the film also includes footage of a vintage car rally travelling along a winding road and traditional farming taking place near Holme-on-Spalding-Moor in East Yorkshire where a team of horses plough, harrow and roller a field.
An amateur film made by Cyril Hall begins with views of people riding a miniature railway around a small track. This is followed by two men being interviewed for the media about a number of miniature steam engines and carousels on display in front of them. The film changes to show displays of traction engines and other events taking place as part of the Masham Steam Rally taking place in North Yorkshire on the 17th July 1983. Views of waterfalls, including High Force, are followed by the Middlesbrough Newport Bridge being lifted and lowered again to allow a ship or barge to pass underneath. The film ends with Cyril himself playing one of his street organs outside the Station House Visitors Centre at Castle Eden Walkway Country Park at Christmas.
