The Newcastle & District Amateur Cinematographers Association (ACA) has been making cine stories and capturing the north east on film for nearly a century. It is the sole survivor of the five original ACA organisations in Britain, first set up in 1927, and this year, incredibly, the cine club celebrates its 90th anniversary.

NEFA are delighted to announce the award of Heritage Lottery Fund Development Funding to help us prepare for a major new programme: ‘North East on Film’, with the ambition to preserve more of our regional film heritage collections, and take them back out to communities across the whole of the North East of England - creating new opportunities for people to see and enjoy moving image collections that have an immediate connection and resonance to their lives and landscapes, through a region-wide programme of screenings, events and online access to hundreds on films.
Montse joined the archive in 2004, the year we launched our temperature and humidity controlled vaults, which were only half full at that point.
"Sometimes the films need a bit of cleaning and basic repairs. That is my first duty. Once they are safe to go onto the scanners, I transfer them to digital files, or video tapes, ready for access. I can put together a few movies to create a film show, or maybe a DVD …"
David joined NEFA in June 2008 as a qualified paper Archivist on a six month contract.
