A Tribute to Mike Neville

The much-loved face of TV news in the north east for more than 40 years, Mike Neville, has died at the age of 80. Born in Willington Quay in 1936, he launched his broadcast career with Tyne Tees Television in 1962. He later became the presenter of BBC Look North and Nationwide, known for his easy-going style and ability to ad-lib through any crisis in the TV studio.

We’d like to celebrate this local legend with a wonderful clip from our Tyne Tees collections that recalls his warmth and the witty banter that became his trademark style. Here’s a youthful, dapper Mike Neville on the New Tyne Bridge, Newcastle, in the 1960s.
