Film ID: YFA 2720 WHITBY SAND AND REGATTA 1930 Visitor TabsDescription This brief film is part of a collection that records a family from York's trips to the coast and countryside around North Yorkshire. The films were all shot by the Lord Mayor of York's son and are a child's view of these days before World War Two. The film opens with some women and some boys standing outside a beach hut as others get changed and come out putting their swimming caps on. There are flags flying on the beach, and one woman holds a towel ready as another woman runs up the beach out of the sea. The group of men and women sit together on the beach and have a picnic. The film then moves on to show a Regatta parade on the promenade as it makes its way along a main residential road. Some cars are decorated to look like planes while some other floats advertise companies.
