Description

This film by South Shields filmmaker Lilian Wincote records a visit to Venice. All the well known landmarks in this historic place are captured.

An opening view shows a women studying a brochure. The camera pans round to a view of one of the Venetian lagoons. An animated title reads;

Title: A Visitor's Venice

The next view shows a familiar method of transport around Venice, the water bus or Vaporetto. A sequence of general views of Venice then goes back to the woman with the brochure.

General views follow of bridges and the famous gondolas on the canals through Venice. Views show the area around the Doge's Palace, with more general views around St Marks Square. Some small stalls in the square sell souvenirs and other items. A woman in St Marks Square is surrounded by pigeons, while another woman looks at a stand selling post cards.

Back to St Mark's Square and general views of buildings and people in an around St Mark's Square and St Mark's Campanile. An artist works on paintings in the square. Details follow of some of the fine stonework on buildings. A gondola goes along the Rio di Palazzo and under the famous Bridge of Sighs. A number of views are taken travelling along one of the canals, passing by gondolas and other canal traffic, as well as taking in spectacular views of other buildings. They pass under the Rialto Bridge on the Grand Canal. Closer shots follow of the Rialto bridge. Feral kittens play near a pavement.

Further views follow of the Grand Canal, followed by the distinctive red tiled roofs in Venice and also some of the lesser known side streets in the city. General views show passengers getting onto a gondola , with travelling shots taken on board. The film ends on  board one of the gondolier.
