Film ID: NEFA 21874 TRIPS OUT IN THE NORTH EAST AND HOLIDAYS IN THE SOUTH c.1955 Visitor TabsDescription This home movie shows a number of favourite North East destinations for a family to relish the open air, either in the countryside or next to water such as Derwentside in County Durham and Tynemouth. More of a holiday excursion appears later in the film as the family visit the west country before returning north again. The film opens in the countryside on two women playing with a ball. Nearby, is a parked Ford Zodiac or Zephyr car (Reg. No. DCN 8). A group of people picnic in hilly countryside, a long view follows showing steelworks at Consett(?). The film cuts to a sailing competition at Tynemouth. An official starts the event by setting off a small cannon on one of the piers at the mouth of the Tyne. This is followed by views of a storm lashing the north pier. Some dark views follow out at Derwentside where low clouds seem to have captured the film maker's imagination. Then a change of location to the south of the country and some views of Eastbourne. Next the south west of the country and the Historical Mint (coinage) House at Pevensey followed by a view of Pevensey Castle. Back to the north and views show waterfalls and the Eildon Hills in the Scottish Borders, then back to the North East and views of buildings in Belsay village, which ends the film.
