South Shields town square is filled with people.

A uniformed man on a podium conducts with a loudspeaker below. Children in uniform that include sea cadets, boy scouts and cubs, stand at the front of the crowd. Adults standing behind the children sing from song sheets.

A brass band leads a banner and parade of people down the main street, past the Odeon Cinema.

Spectators line the streets.

There are close-ups of small children dressed in their Sunday best.
