The yacht was launched on the 29th May 1961 and completed August 1961. The film begins with a view of the yacht Marco Polo moored in the water at Clelands Shipbuilding Company at Wallsend. Another larger commercial vessel is moored nearby. The crew for the sea trial board the ship from a small rowing boat. As the yacht gets underway there are views of the Quartermaster at the wheel of the boat. The yacht passes North Shields and is accompanied by a Tyne Tugboat. General view of the yacht passing the Tynemouth Pier into the North Sea. A Royal Navy fisheries protection vessel travels past heading into the Tyne. There are views of men on deck as the ship. A small airplane flies overhead before flying past at low level. The film ends with the Marco Polo heading back into the Tyne.
