The film opens with a man reading the programme for the Police Cadet Open Day that is being held at Hardwick Camp, Sedgefield on the 12 July 1971. Cadets in uniform and caps with blue trim march onto a parade ground. Around the sides sit family and invited guests. The Durham Constabulary band is conducted by a Sergeant in a white helmet. Chief Constable Anthony Armstrong salutes the Commandant of the camp. The Commandant and Chief Constable inspect and speak with a number of male and female cadets. Two of the cadets wear red rather than blue trim around their caps identifying them as Junior Firemen. The Commandant and Chief Constable speak with a number of former cadets. A female cadet marches forward to receive the Chief Constable cup from the Chief Constable. The cadet them hands back the cup to the Commandant. A male cadet marches forward to receive the Charles Saunders bowl from the Chief Constable. The cadet them hands back the bowl to the Commandant. A female cadet marches forward to receive the Bell Sports trophy from the Chief Constable. The cadet them hands back the trophy to the Commandant. The Chief Constable hands out Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award medals to a line of cadets. The cadets march past the Chief Constable who is standing on a pedestal. Four cadets on motorcycles perform a display. Four male cadets watch over a female cadet who is performing on a trampoline. A female cadet performs gymnastics on a mat. A number of male cadets jump over a gym horse. The cadets are wearing green which identifies them as being from Lampton house. The instructor standing next to the horse wears red socks and shorts and is identified as being from Hardwick house. A number of male cadets take part in an obstacle race. One of the cadets is carrying a full rucksack as he comes out of a concrete pipe. The cadets on motorcycles drive slowly past the Chief Constable. A poster on a wooden sign reads; 'Boy's Club 1971 Spring Bank Holiday 100 Canoe Test'. General view of three camping tents on display. Camping equipment is laid out infront of the tent. A sign on a metal gate reads; 'Police Training Centre Newby Wiske Hall' General views of Newby Wiske Hall in North Yorkshire. Policemen walk up the driveway towards Newby Wiske Hall. The film ends with a former cadet carrying a suitcase walking through the gates at Newby Wiske Hall.
