1914

Visitor Tabs

Description

A Gaumont Graphic newsreel of 27 August 1914 recording food distribution to elderly dependants of British Army reservists in Newcastle upon Tyne during World War One.

Packages of bread are handed out to elderly men filing past a table in a court yard, dependants of volunteers in reserve brigades. Once the bread has been collected the men are led out through a gated doorway. Along the back wall of the courtyard tables have been erected that are full of loaves of bread.
